This is a smaller sized cast, compared to the others. With lighter weight casts, I can usually mount the cast directly to the wood base, whereas the heavier casts usually just sit freely on top of the base. This is the largest cast I have done that was still light enough to mount directly to the base. It's interesting to me that the small colonies usually have a similar shape, which is distinct from the larger casts. The smaller casts usually have wide reaching tunnels near the surface which taper off sharply giving it a sail boat like appearance. Examples of similar casts are Cast #006 and Cast #068.

The cast is displayed upside down from its natural orientation and is mounted to a basswood base. The cast is mounted to the base with a bolt. It's finished with Danish oil and no clear coat, which I think makes it look great. The bottom of the base has four felt pads to protect the surface it is displayed on. A stainless steel plaque is mounted on the base engraved with the cast information.
