This is a smaller fire ant colony cast, but it still has an incredible number of interconnected tunnels. It has the general shape that most of the casts have, being widest at the surface and narrowing almost to a point deeper in the ground. The cast is mounted upside down from its natural orientation.

The cast is mounted directly to the base with a bolt. I typically stain the bases myself but for this cast I had a base that I purchased which was already stained and finished professionally that fit perfect. It's a walnut base with a very high quality finish but there still could be a few dings or scratches from the mounting process. Because of the smaller base I chose for this cast the stainless steel plaque which has information about the cast is a somewhat obscured by the cast but it can be seen and read from an angle. Felt pads on the bottom of the base keep it from scratching the surface it sits on.
