It seems like a large amount of the colony was captured, given the hill size, but there is a section on the back where it looks like the tunnels failed to fill. With that missing section, the solid piece of aluminum resulting from the hole made in the hill to pour the aluminum in (the
pour stem) is visible on the
back side of the cast. It's a good looking cast though and is about as large of a cast as I'm able to mount directly to a base.
The base is walnut with a nice finish, although there are a few dings from the mounting process that aren't very noticeable. The cast is secured to the base with a 1/4" bolt.
